JOB GOAL: Profile of a Natick Educator

The Natick Public Schools, a Prek-12 district, is seeking substitute RNs districtwide. School nursing is a dynamic discipline embracing a variety of functions which fall under the broad categories of health assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Ability to relate to children at the required level.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction from the Nurse and/or Principal.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Maintain a safe environment.
  • Respect and protect the confidentiality of students, staff, families, etc.
  • Experience as a CNA/HHA preferred.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Student Services may find appropriate and acceptable.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • The substitute nurse is a registered nurse who assumes the duties of the school nurse in the event of the school nurse’s absence.
  • Responsible to ensure the smooth operation of the Health Office and provide appropriate nursing care to students and staff including the administration of medications.
  • Render emergency first aid as necessary.
  • Triages students/staff with illness or injury and provides appropriate intervention
  • Demonstrates professional behavior with all interactions
  • Maintain professional dress and appearance

 

Professional Certification:

 

  • Must have a valid license (MA RN) to practice as a registered nurse in Massachusetts. BSN preferred.
  • Must complete an orientation program based upon guidelines issued form the Department of Public Health and the Natick Public Schools.
  • Must be certified and maintain current certification in CPR for healthcare professionals through a recognized provider (i.e. American Heart Association)
  • Recent pediatric or community health experience
  • Computer experience with electronic medical records
  • Must complete a CORI check and  complete fingerprinting 
  • Responsible to ensure the smooth operation of the Health Office and provide appropriate nursing care to students and staff including the administration of medications.

 

 

Specialized Knowledge:

 

  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare as they relate to children and adolescents
  • Understanding of social-emotional development of students
  • Meet all state and federal guidelines in order to be fully licensed and highly qualified
  • Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practices of diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice as they relate to student engagement and success.

 

Preferred Experience: 

 

  • Two years of experience in pediatric or community health
  • Previous public school experience preferred

  • communicate and collaborate effectively with students, parents, and other staff members in person, via video conference, on the telephone, and/or in writing;

  • lifting up to and including 50 lbs;
  • the noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

 

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects or controls.
